Improve Open Energy Monitor
Description: Make improvements to the Arduino-based, open source, energy monitoring system out of the UK.
By monitoring their energy use, non-profits can maximize their efficiency. They're going to spend money on energy anyway, might as well do it wisely. Non-profits who own their own buildings can monitor them. Non-profits who manage housing can put these monitors into each home or apartment to track everyone's usage.
Improvements to the system include:
- getting it to run on the US 120V AC system.
- send data to a web page rather than to an open source hardware device
- aggregation of many systems into one reporting space so apartment & community non-profits can monitor all units in one place.
- permission system to allow individuals to monitor their own energy use while the sys admins can monitor everyone's use.
- possibly create ability to share data via pachube.com.
Programming skills needed:
Arduino (Wiring programming language, Processing programming language)
Web based framework like Ruby on Rails (TBD by developers)
